8-arm radial maze

8-arm radial mazeEvaluation of spatial working memory

The eight‐arm radial maze consists of a central platform connected to eight enclosed arms, which each contain an invisible food reward at the end of the arm. In each trial, mice are allowed to explore the maze and consume all eight food rewards. This task requires mice to remember whether an arm has already been visited during that particular session or not. Hence, it requires intact spatial working memory. The number of re-entry errors into previously visited arms is a measure of spatial working memory.

Radial maze performance is affected in AD models

Mouse models for Alzheimer’s disease display impaired learning in the 8-arm radial maze compared with wild-type littermates.
