Compound administration

Sylics offers a range of services related to compound administration, both peripherally and directly into the central nervous system.

Peripheral injections

Sylics has years of experience with routinely delivering compounds peripherally. This includes: intravenous (IV), intraperitoneal (IP),  and subcutaneous (SC) injections. The optimal route of delivery depends on a number of factors, including the frequency and time of administration, as well as compound stability and half-life. Please contact us for more information.

Voluntary oral administration, for instance by mixing a test compound through regular chow.

Oral administration

We have optimized a voluntary oral administration method, which improves animal welfare especially when repeated administration of a compound is required. Mice are familiarized to eating a fat- or water-based palatable matrix, to which experimental compounds can be added. In addition, we can also administer compounds to regular chow, the drinking water or by using an oral gavage. Please contact us for more information.

Chronic administration

For testing certain compounds in preclinical studies, it is required to continuously infuse it peripherally or into the central nervous system (e.g. cerebrospinal fluid). We have experience with implantation of mice with osmotic minipumps, which led to successful chronic infusion of the test compounds. Pumps with different sizes are available depending on the length of the experiment. We also offer services to chronically infuse compounds into the brain using brain cannulas. Please contact us for more information.

Osmotic minipumps for chronic administration.
To evaluate the effectiveness of new enzyme replacement therapies (ERT) or oligonucleotides (ODN) to treat severe neurological diseases, a cannula system can be used for repeated and/or chronic intra-ventricular infusions.

Intracerebral administration

With the advent of biological drugs that require Intrathecal administration, it is desirable for the preclinical studies to deliver the compound directly into the brain or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). We have extensive experience with both delivery via stereotaxic injection and implantation of brain cannulas. The latter also allows for repeated or continuous infusion into the same brain region or CSF. We have performed long term experiments that entailed continuous infusion into the CSF.
