Compound delivery

interventionsWe have optimized a voluntary oral administration method, which improves animal welfare especially when repeated administration of a compound is required. Mice are familiarized eating a fat- or water-based palatable matrix, to which experimental compounds can be added. In addition, we offer a range of standard biotechnical methods for the delivery of compounds. The optimal route of delivery depends on a number of factors, including the frequency and time of administration, as well as compound stability and half-life. We have years of experience with diverse strategies and are always prepared to determine the optimal route of administration for your project.

Brain region-specific expression using viral vectors

Tremendous fundamental insight has been gained in recent years by the (over)expression of proteins in a brain region or cell type-specific manner. Sylics Contract Research staff scientists and technicians have contributed their expertise to several studies in which disease-related genes have been expressed in particular brain regions (e.g. Loos et al., 20141). Current projects focus on expressing light-sensitive receptors (optogenetics) as well as designer receptors that can be activated by designer drugs (DREADD technology) to modify brain cell function in the context of schizophrenia.

Customized interventions

Our portfolio also includes nutrient deficiency-induced cognitive deficits (e.g. Alpha-linolenic acid deficiency) and frequently used enriched environment conditions to mimic behavioural therapy.
