Tissue collection

Sylics offers a range of services related to tissue collection, such as sampling from brain and other organs, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and blood (e.g. plasma).

Brain and other organs

Sylics routinely collects tissue from the brain and other organs in mice. This includes collection of the full brain and preparation for histological analysis. We also often dissect the brain into distinct anatomical regions, which is often useful in proteomics and genomics. We can collect the tissue at any temperature (e.g. snap-frozen) and store it with or without a specific buffer (e.g. cryoprotectant). Tissue can be collected after perfusion, with or without fixatives.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

Sylics has performed many experiments in which CSF was collected, often for downstream analysis with ultra-sensitive protein detection techniques. CSF collection is performed under anesthesia, usually before collection of the brain but can also be performed chronically through a cannula. In humans and mice, CSF is often analysed to measure fluid biomarkers of protein aggregation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. Please contact us for more information.

Blood

The advent of sensitive proteomic and genomic methods has made it possible to measure minute quantities of biological molecules in the blood. Sylics routinely collects blood (e.g. whole blood, plasma, serum), both using repeated peripheral sampling and larger quantities at the end of experiments. We also offer a collection of blood-based biomarkers in mouse models with neuroinflammation, protein aggregation, or neurodegeneration. Please contact us for more information.
