The Company
Sylics is a research intensive company that develops research solutions in preclinical neuroscience. Sylics CRO runs preclinical neuroscience studies for national and international biotech, food & pharma partners in a facility in Amsterdam. These studies focus on assessing the effect of novel therapeutic strategies to treat brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Schizophrenia. Sylics Bioinformatics provides data analyses services to customers worldwide, using its proprietary cloud-based data analysis platform AHCODA.

Job description
(1) The main task is to manage a granted H2020 RIA funded research project with a focus on rare genetic variants of strong effects in patients with Autism, Intellectual disability and Schizophrenia, Sylics is looking for an enthusiastic and well-organized project manager. The project manager operates from Sylics’ offices in Amsterdam, and works closely with the consortium coordinator and academic and industry partners located throughout Europe.
Your key responsibilities will be:

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with the coordinator and partners of the EU-funded research consortium;
• Work closely with consortium partners ensuring all tasks, deliverables and milestones are completed on time and within budget;
• Prepare all financial and technical/scientific documentation to meet the reporting requirements of the European Commission;
• Organisation of meetings and events for the consortium;
• Oversee the content of a project website and associated promotional literature and promotional activities;

(2) In addition to the primary task, and depending on the background of the candidate, the job description will include contributions to scouting new business opportunities in the domain of preclinical neuroscience. Hereto, the candidate works closely with a team of experienced scientists and skilled technicians to provide biotech, food & pharma leads with a tailor-made preclinical research project proposals and quotes. Key responsibilities will be:

• Combine in depth knowledge of neuroscience, in particular in the field of neurodegeneration and/or neuropsychiatry, with excellent communication skills to connect with representatives of biotech, food & pharma leads;
• Creatively use a wide range of activities to obtain insightful market intelligence to identify new leads, prioritize leads, and strategically and proactively approach new leads;
• Follow up requests from leads, with project proposals and quotes.

You have a PhD or MSc degree in life sciences. Experience with project management, especially FP7 or H2020 programs, and/or experience in the field of preclinical (in vivo) neuroscience research is a plus. You are a warm and enthusiastic personality with excellent communication, planning and organisation skills, capable of working independently and under time pressure, but also as a team player and a good networker. Fluency in English is essential.

Terms of employment

• Initially a part-time contract for 24-28 hours per week, with the possibility to extent to a full-time contract depending on the business development proficiency of the candidate
• Initially a temporary contract for one year, with the possibility to extend, and ultimately a permanent position;
