Histological services

Sylics offers a range of services related to sectioning, staining, and imaging of brain slices.

Brain sectioning

Sylics has extensive experience with the wide range of brain sectioning techniques. This includes free-floating sections and thin cryosections of brain and muscle tissues, and ultra thin sectioning of nerves. We routinely use sectioning into free floating slices as a relatively quick and robust method to sample multiple brain regions for immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry. Thin cryosections are prepared for classical stainings. For more information please contact us.

Transgenic models that overexpress mutated human tau (MAPT*P301S or MAPT*P301L) show phosphorylated tau staining as detected by an AT8 antibody.

Immunofluorecence

Sylics has extensive experience with immunofluorescence staining (IF) and fluorescence microscopy. The main advantage of IF compared to other staining methods is that it allows co-localization of multiple markers and high-resolution microscopy. We have successfully performed IF for a wide range of targets (e.g. protein aggregates, neuroinflammation/glia, synaptic/intracellular markers). We also offer a variety of methods to quantify IF results. For more information please contact us.

Immunohistochemistry

Sylics has extensive experience with a broad range of staining techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) in combination with light microscopy. When examining a single marker, IHC is a robust technique that allows long term storage of stained sections. We also offer a variety of methods to quantify IHC results.  For more information please contact us.

Classical stainings

For some purposes such as detection of mature protein aggregates or other neuropathologies, the classical dye-based stainings can still be the method of choice. Sylics has extensive experience with a broad range of staining techniques, including hematoxylin & eosin staining (H&E) and toluidine blue staining in combination with light microscopy. We also offer a variety of methods to quantify staining results. For more information please contact us.
